The Tea Tree grows exclusively in Australia and has been used in ‘First Aid' by the natives of Australia for thousands of years. They used Tea Tree for the cleansing and healing of wounds, sores and abscesses. Legend has it that when Captain Cook and his men landed on Australian soil for the first time, they used the leaves of this tree to prepare a refreshing drink which then proved to help fight diseases such as scurvy - thus helping to give the tree its name. In the twentieth century the Tea Tree was scientifically investigated and experts found that one kind of the Tea Tree - the Maleleuca Alternifolia - possessed antiseptic substances. In the following years Tea Tree Oil was used frequently. Following the Second World War however chemical drugs pushed aside natural remedies in general and only in the late seventies has this gentle healer become of interest again.
In fact a number of Hospitals around the world use the Tea Tree to ‘scrub-up' prior to operations and it is now fair to say that the Australlian Tea Tree is amongst the most beneficial and indeed most popular essential oils in the world. It is now recognised as a wonderful medicinal product which has ‘all-round' healing properties.
Two main components dictate whether the Tea Tree it is good or bad - Cineol, which can vary from 3% to 50% and the less Cineol content the better, and Terpinen-4-ol, which can vary from 27% to 70%. Unlike Cineol, the more Terpinen-4-ol content the better.
Jüst only use the finest Tea Tree oil and it is not blended with cheaper kinds of Tea Tree such as the Maleleuca linariifolia and Maleleuca dissitiflora. As the Tea Tree oil is of the highest quality it is not necessary to change the content of its components after harvesting. (i.e. reduce the content of Cineol).
